Happy Valley
We had such a good time yesterday exploring Happy Valley.  First we went a walk through the woods to see what it was like, then we split into groups.  Lindsey helped us to do pond dipping and we also made mud faces and dens.

Plants and Animals
P1 are learning about plants and animals this term.

P6 pupils came to help us plant Nasturtium and Marigold seeds.  We learned about what seeds need to grow.

We have made a Garden Centre in our den.  We are having fun making things and buying and selling.

We are looking after our tadpoles and watching them grow and change.

We spoke about how we know something is alive.  We went outside to find some living and not living things.

We went on a Nature Walk around Stromness to discover what kinds of plants and animals live in our local environment.  We saw lots of bluebells and starlings.

Disappearing Puddles
In P1, we have started a new topic - Water.  We will be looking at how water changes state, using everyday examples.  Today we were observing the sun heating up and taking the water out of our puddles to make the clouds in the sky.  We made lots of little puddles and drew round them with chalk so we would know where they had been.  When we came back after half an hour they were gone!  We decided to make a really big puddle to see if the same thing would happen.  It did!

Happy Holi
In P1 we have been learning about the Hindu festival Holi.  Holi is a festival to celebrate the coming of Spring and everyone has fun throwing coloured paint powder.  We enjoyed learning about Holi so much, we also learned a little bit about Diwali where Hindus celebrate the safe return of Rama and Sita.
We decorated our den in an Indian style and having been enjoying dressing up in clothes that Indie gave the school, playing with coloured rice and looking at information books.

A Good Game!

Today we played a game where we had to listen to a 'ng' word and then find the matching dinosaur egg.  Click on the link below to have a go at home...
