Library Competition
A few weeks ago we all designed a bookmark and entered them into a competition at the Orkney Library.  Everyone worked VERY hard on their bookmarks and made a super job of them.  There were 173 entries from children in Orkney and we are really proud that Erin Rose and Magnus G are joint winners of the competition!  Well done to them both and look out for the designs in the new library.  All the bookmark designs will be on display at the library in Kirkwall from the end of this week.

The Three Little Pigs
LO:  Through discovery, natural curiosity and imagination, I explore ways to construct models or solve problems.

As part of our project this term, we have been designing and making.  Last week we used junk materials to make our own design and this week we had the challenge of using construction materials to make a house for three little pigs.  We had to plan and make our house with a partner.  It had to be big enough for the three pigs, have an exit for them but be secure enough that the big bad wolf wouldn't be able to get in.
We discovered that the stickle bricks were good to build with, the lego took a long time to make high enough and wooden bricks made quite fragile buildings.
On reflection, some thought that the next time, they would choose a different material to make their house better.

Money, Money, Money!
We have started the term learning about money.  We have learned about the images, writing and numbers on the coins and how much they are worth.  We have been busy sorting coins and playing games with them.  We all enjoyed playing a game where you move round a board and land on either 'pay' or 'pay and get change.'  It was fun being the shopkeeper.

Christmas Church Service
Today the whole school walked down to the Stromness Church for a Christmas Service.  P1 had a little 'show' prepared and we told everyone about the Christmas story and sang three lovely songs.  P2 helped us by reading parts of the Bible.  Well done P1 and thanks to all the people who came to see us.  A super end to 2014!  Have a happy Christmas everyone.

P1 and P2 Christmas Celebrations

On Tuesday, P1 and P2 had a Christmas party.  We played games like musical statues and Christmas corners and did lots of dancing.  Once the games were over, we got a little snack of jelly and ice-cream.  Everyone looked great in their smart party clothes.

Last Friday, Santa made an appearance at SPS.  P1 were very lucky to get three games and four books to share.  Yesterday Mr McIntosh came through with a sack that had been left here by Santa as he whizzed past.  He had delivered us more presents!  Everyone in the class got to take home a mug of delicious 'snowman soup.'

Christmas is Coming!
This week we have started to prepare for Christmas.  P1 have a little part to play in the Christmas Service and, with the help of the fantastic P5s, we have been making crafts for it.  We were also really excited to discover a peedie Christmas tree had arrived in the classroom.  Thanks very much to Magnus' dad for taking it down from Wilson's for us.  We are looking forward to seeing lots of family and friends at the pantomime next week - we have been doing lots of practising!

Katie Morag
This term, we have been exploring the Katie Morag stories.  We have discussed the setting and the main characters in the stories.  We have been working with a partner to make the houses and people for a Katie Morag display.  Today, we made a shop and post office outside our classroom.
